Vine’s Last Hurrah 😢

In October of 2016 it was announced that Vine — Twitter’s groundbreaking video looping platform — would soon shut down after just 4 glorious years.

At its peak, Vine had as many as 200 million active users, and was seen as a social video pioneer. Vine gave us short, giggle-able videos and created a new term: the Vine Star. It set the stage for other social media platforms, like Snapchat and Instagram, to capitalize on video.

While it’s unclear what the future of Vine is, we do know that the video platform won’t be around in its current form by this time next year. So, in memoriam, we celebrate the life and legacy of Vine with the 10 best Vines of 2016. Top posts are measured by the amount of total interactions they received (likes + loops for Vine).

The best of the best:

  1. “Eli Manning is SO EXCITED for his brother, Peyton.” 115,400,625 interactions (via Alex Kennedy)

2. “ Lady Gaga scared Leonardo DiCaprio.” 114,947,827 interactions (via Kate Aurthur)

3. “ Who’s your best friend?” 113,729,066 interactions (via Lottie)

4. “Yaga 😂💀” 78,128,119 interactions (via SamuelGrubbs1)

5. “It’s lit.” 74,989,596 interactions (via its just luke)

6. “Obsessed with all these famous people on the aisle refusing to clap for an #oscars winner.” 63,527,359 interactions (via Dalton Ross)

7. Twerk it. 55,664,025 interactions (via Hermitude)

8. Party Parrots, 51,949,176 interactions (via Rejected Cartoons)

9. “Every time someone send you hate, send them this back.” 51,709,643 interactions (via Mark Di Stefano)

10. “My reaction when my weird friend tells me they got a bae.” 50,414,594 interactions (via America’s Funniest Home Videos)

How we measure: The top posts in this list are measured by total interactions (i.e. likes, comments, and loops on Vine). Posts were pulled from Jan. 1, 2016 through the first week of December, 2016.
